Niger Seeds for Birds (Nyjer/Thistle Seeds)

Niger bird seed (also known as Nyger Seed or Nyjer Seed) packs a punch despite its small size. Beloved by Finches and Siskins for their rich oil content, these seeds are high in fat and protein, providing essential nutrition during winter months.

Due to the size of these seeds, we recommend using a special Niger seed feeder. Niger seeds can potentially germinate and sprout under feeders, so add a tray from our feeder accessories to prevent spillages.

Treat your birds to fresh Niger seed.

Nyjer is a tiny black seed from the African yellow daisy. Although they are occasionally termed 'thistle seeds,' they share closer botanical ties with sunflower seeds.

Birds that like niger seeds typically have tiny, sharp beaks which are adept at cracking the little shells. Likely, you’ll find it attracts Siskins, Goldfinches, Chaffinches, Coal Tits, Redpolls and Collared Doves. Put them out in a special feeder, or add them to a seed mix to attract a diverse group of visitors to your garden.

Ensure nutritional value with quality Niger bird seed.

Always purchase good quality Niger seeds from a trusted supplier. If the seeds are old, the oil content is reduced, resulting in a dry, stale seed which wild birds will not eat, rendering it useless. To ensure freshness, we recommend storing your bird food in an airtight container and placing it in a cool and dry location.
