It’s the big garden bird watch this weekend (27th – 29th Jan 2018). This event which for the last few years has helped improve some species of birds populations rise and recorded what birds we find over here in the UK. We all know that feeding the birds year round helps but what else can?
'Gone With The Wind' (Tips & Tricks for Bird Feeding in Extreme Winds!)
Sometimes its more than your hair that gets messy in the wind! In adverse weather conditions bird seed can get blown about and feeders get knocked off their perches. We thought it might be a good idea to list some useful tips and tricks that we have found helpful in getting one over the terrible weather we can get here in the UK!
Hedgehog numbers have seriously declined in the UK, if you're fortunate enough to still have these wonderful prickly visitors to your garden, why not lend them a hand and give them a home with some good quality hedgehog food. Here we have a great selection of hedgehog products from hedgehog homes to delicious meaty hedgehog biscuits and hedgehog treats. Hedgehogs are also the gardeners friend; they have voracious appetites for many garden pests such as slugs and snails. Supplementing their diet with hedgehog food will not deter them from natural foraging, Hedgehogs ideally need to weigh around 600 grams before going into hibernation, and this ensures they have enough body fat resource to see them through the long sleep. Smaller Hedgehogs will still try and hibernate, if their body fat is too low, they will not survive, and a reliable source of hedgehog food every night will ensure they reach the required weight to hibernate. If you also place a hedgehog box in a quiet corner of the garden, you may even be rewarded by one taking up residence and potentially raising a family.
